Classics at Greystone Mansion Concours

In the seven years since its inception, the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance has distinguished itself on SoCal’s busy automotive calendar. The first Sunday in May is now earmarked for this concours, the historic mansion and gardens transporting guests to the elegant ‘20s to enjoy the concours in a relaxed and sumptuous setting. The concours brings out spectacular automobiles from local and out-of-state collections. By far 2016 was the best year yet; the entries were outstanding and attendees took notice.

The historic Doheny family mansion in Beverly Hills exists today thanks to the work of its stalwart supporters. The estate was destined for demolition until heroic efforts rescued it, identifying the mansion as an important historical landmark that we continue to enjoy today.

Participants were warmly welcomed by concours founders Cindy and Jeff Brynan and the concours committee. Festivities began on Friday night with a chic cocktail party at Beverly Canon Gardens. Entrants and guests mingled and enjoyed refreshments and light fare, wine tastings and specialties from area restaurants including chef Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and Fleming’s. So much fun was had that the crowd was apparently undaunted by Sunday’s early start time — the crowd didn’t disperse until way past the “end” of cocktail hour.

As in previous years, American and European Classics turned out in great numbers to support of the event. The field included something you don’t usually see — a Cadillac/LaSalle class, with examples spanning from 1928 to 1960.  A small but strong Packard class held the far end of the field. Jay Leno brought his gorgeous 1934 Duesenberg J Walker Coupe.

Thank you to all who exhibited and congratulations to those who won “Best in Class” in their respective categories! It is exciting to see the event grow into its own and offer something special on the concours calendar. Everyone had an enjoyable day, and we look forward to seeing you there again in 2017.
